About the Calculator

RF Link Budget Pro is a free, browser-based RF engineering tool that computes the complete link budget for a wireless transmission path. All formulas used in the calculator are documented on these reference pages, including the exact constants and boundary conditions applied in the production code.

The calculator supports two propagation models (FSPL and Two-Ray Ground Reflection), Fresnel zone analysis with knife-edge diffraction, Shannon-Hartley capacity, MIMO antenna array gain, VSWR mismatch loss, polarization loss, and cable loss modeling for LMR, RG, and Heliax cable families.

All calculations are performed server-side in Python using standard RF engineering formulas. The documentation pages on this site show the exact formulas — including constants — used in production.

Engineering Disclaimer: All results are estimates based on simplified propagation models intended for planning and feasibility assessment. Real-world RF performance depends on terrain, vegetation, atmospheric conditions, multipath, interference, and equipment factors not modeled here. Validate critical deployments with field measurements and spectrum analysis.

Use the full calculator to combine all these parameters into a complete RF link budget.
